FAQ

Here are some common questions people have about Chiropractic and the approach to care in our office. We want to help you make an informed decision as you seek to invest in your and your family’s well-being.

Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is the philosophy, science and art of analyzing and adjusting the spine to reduce/correct Vertebral Subluxation. A Vertebral Subluxation is a misaligned spinal segment causing nerve interference/irritation, resulting in nerve and nervous system dysfunction. Because the nervous system controls all the body’s functions (brain, organ, muscle, blood flow, elimination, immunity, mobility, etc), dysfunction can occur and worsen throughout the body if these Vertebral Subluxations are left unaddressed.

Can Chiropractic help my (symptom or named disease)?

Although Chiropractic doesn’t diagnose or treat any specific named disease or condition, with regular checkups your body is able to function and self-heal at its best (and most people feel better too!), regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms.  This is how Chiropractic benefits everyone BECAUSE we’re not trying to “fix” any specific complaint, but rather adjusting for Vertebral Subluxation, which in and of itself is a detriment to your overall health. That is our goal at each visit.

With that said, there may be other physical, chemical or emotional stress that can be addressed with diet, clinical nutrition, exercise and lifestyle improvements. Ask us for recommendations for what you can do between checkups.

Will I feel better?

Most people do feel better after their first adjustment, especially with regular checkups. Although our goal at each visit is not to make you feel better (or fix your pain), it’s to correct for nerve interference so your body can function at its best. Your body takes care of its symptoms as best as it can, not your Chiropractor. So the expectation to how you should feel after an adjustment is the satisfaction that your body is functioning at its best. Symptoms come and go, shift around, move from one side to another and this is part of the healing process. However, we’ve seen many of our members’ symptoms (and overall health) improve with regular checkups.

Chiropractic isn’t designed to make you instantly feel better, it’s designed to make you instantly heal better!” In understanding this you realize that you may not always feel better after an adjustment. Your body needs time to reorganize, heal and restore function.

How do you adjust?

Every Chiropractor chooses their own adjusting technique in which to specialize. The ones we’ve chosen include a combination of drop table, hands-on and instrument. We’ve decided not to incorporate the techniques that require a twisting mechanism in your neck or pelvis. Our adjustments are specific and are made according to a careful analysis (objective) regardless of any present symptoms (subjective).

Our adjustments are gentle and comfortable, however, as with any technique, especially if you’re in a lot of discomfort, it may sting momentarily, but that usually improves with regular care.

Is Chiropractic for Children?

Chiropractic is for everyone! From birth to senior and all ages in between. The goal in Chiropractic is the same for all ages, which is addressing Vertebral Subluxation and helping the body to restore proper nerve function with the adjustment.

Of course with children the adjustment doesn’t require as much force as with adults. Actually proper Chiropractic technique uses the least amount of force necessary to make the adjustment.

Children respond very well to care because their bodies don’t have years of stored up stress or injury as do adults. Their healing response is a lot quicker. Many parents decide that regular checkups work well for their kiddos.

For children that struggle with the following, Chiropractic has been very helpful in bringing much improved balance into their lives:

  • Behavior challenges
  • Mood highs/lows
  • Academic/athletic performance
  • Cognitive/concentration difficulty
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Bowel/bladder dysfunction
  • Recurring ear infections
  • Recurring illness (cold, flu, sinus, allergies)
  • Infant breastfeeding/indigestion
  • Etc…

Children 12 and younger can participate in our Kids Club by earning prizes at each of their visits.

What is that "popping" or "cracking" noise?

It’s just that, a noise. It’s not bones being cracked or hitting against one another. It’s actually an exchange of gases built up in the joint that are released at the moment of an adjustment. We neither expect it nor try to make it happen as it’s irrelevant to an adjustment. Hearing this noise is not the goal, although it is heard more often with certain adjusting techniques.

Our Practice

Who do you care for?

We primarily care for prenatal (pregnancy), pediatric (children) and families, in addition to student athletes. If you’ve recently had an injury/accident or have an acute flareup of a chronic condition, we can certainly see you through it, but the best use of Chiropractic is on a regular basis, such as weekly/bi-weekly, but not less than once a month. The reason: if you have nerve interference in your body that’s weakening your function and/or performance, wouldn’t you want to get it corrected as soon as possible?

For our younger practice members ages 12 and under, we offer a Kids Club where they can earn prizes along their wellness journey. Your child will have his/her own card that they can punch at each of their visits. When they have 5 punches they can choose a prize from the prize table. We also have a play area for them as their parents are getting checked.
